Family is the most important thing for many individuals, regardless of where they were born. There are currently many residents in Maryland that immigrated to the U.S. and are still hoping that family reunification will soon mean they can live with their loved ones. Many individuals will seek the assistance of an immigration attorney in this pursuit.
As immigration reform continues to be a topic of hot discussion in Washington D.C., many are concerned that the available number of family visas will see a serious hit. Currently, there are 4.3 million individuals hoping to immigrate to the U.S. through the family visa program.
Many politicians argue that family reunification is critical as a support system for many citizens living in the U.S., while others argue that making more visas available for high-skilled workers will serve to boost the economy. The later propose to make more visa capacity by eliminating individuals that are married adult children or siblings of U.S. citizens from immigration eligibility under the family visa program.
The president of the Asian American Justice Center is a strong advocate of family reunification, and she told the Washington Post, “The point that we’ve been trying to communicate to the White House and House and Senate is, ‘Who are we to define what a nuclear family is?’ ”
At present, no decision has been finalized or put into motion as discussions are still underway. Whatever reason an individual wishes to immigrate, an experienced attorney can be of great assistance in the process. Depending on the outcome of this and related talks, this assistance could be even more crucial for successful immigration for some individuals.
