According to prosecutors, a man that admitted to being a Mexican citizen illegally living in the United States will probably be deported back to Mexico after he pleaded guilty to charges as part of a plea agreement. A very significant number of individuals are deported every year when they are convicted of a crime.
However, it is not murderers and horrible people that immigration officials are most typically sending away. Often it is people that are found to have traffic violations that are deported, hugely disrupting their lives and the lives of their family. So what is this man likely being deported back to Mexico in trouble for?
Spanking a child. The exact nature of this man’s arrest was not detailed in a local report, but as part of a plea agreement, the man admitted to a lesser charge of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. The man is set to be transferred to the custody of U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
For U.S. citizens, being caught with a small amount of marijuana or being in a physical altercation will typically result in minor consequences. However, if an individual is illegally living in the country, or here on a visa or green card, being charged with a crime can have disastrous consequences.
In such circumstances it is often imperative to seek the legal advice of not only a criminal defense attorney but an immigration attorney as well because such charges could mean that the charged individual is subject to deportation.
