Ruling saves man from deportation

On Behalf of | Dec 5, 2013 | U.S. Immigration Law |

For those who come to the United States from elsewhere, they may feel a constant weight on their shoulders if there is any question as to their immigration status. They could live here for decades, working and raising families, only to find themselves in the situation where deportation is a reality with little to no warning. Any Maryland resident who has questions about their own status or fears the consequences of deportation or themselves or a loved one may want to follow the story of a man who recently fought deportation.

The man had come to the United States in 1998. He worked in one state then moved to the Eastern part of the country to find better work. The man then married in 2002 and held a steady job while raising a family. In 2011, the man was stopped by the police for a minor traffic violation and arrested due to being undocumented.

The man faced deportation and sought help from a group that helps those facing deportation fight that potential fate. The group, American Families United, and other organizations took up the man’s cause. There was also help from local media and letters of support. A hearing was held and the man was saved from deportation and his status regularized.

This man’s fight against deportation ended well, and he is able to legally stay in the country and be with his loved ones. However, the fight against deportation is rarely easy or quick. It can be complicated and a trying ordeal that affects everyone in the potential deportee’s life, including family, friends, and co-workers. Anyone in Maryland who is unsure of their status or who is currently facing the threat of deportation may benefit from knowing their options and what legal avenues they may be able to pursue to ensure a favorable outcome.
