Whenever someone is in the country and not a citizen, even if they are here for decades, there is always the possibility of deportation. If someone is arrested and convicted of a crime, that alone may lead to deportation, depending on the crime and the circumstances. Recently, a couple who is famous for their appearances on “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” was arrested and charged with a number of crimes, and the husband, Joe Giudice, could face deportation as a result. Anyone in Maryland who may not be a citizen and has been charged with a crime may be interested in their story.
Giudice came to the United States as a baby with his parents. He never became a U.S. citizen. The husband and his wife, Teresa, a fixture on the show, were charged and convicted of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud and concealing assets, along with bank and mortgage fraud. They have been ordered to pay restitution and back taxes. They both were also handed federal prison sentences.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency may elect to pursue deportation for Giudice. He would be deported to Italy if action is taken and deportation results. However, it may be that any move to deport Giudice would take place after he has served his federal prison sentence.
Whenever someone commits an aggravated felony, deportation is required. It would have to be distinguished that the charges in this case fit that level of severity. As with any deportation case in Maryland or any other state, having the facts about what crimes may lead to deportation and knowing the best possible way to defend oneself against any criminal charges may be the most beneficial move to avoid deportation altogether.
