Many people seek refuge in the United States for a variety of reasons. However, there are times when individuals enter the country as a means of avoiding criminal charges related to incidents in another country. One man has made news recently as his deportation looms and questions about his past come to the surface. The man is a 72-year-old from Lebanon. He is accused of entering the United States illegally with a false passport. He allegedly entered the country more than 20 years ago. Because of this incident, he is now facing deportation.
The man’s fate after deportation also looms in the balance as officials in Ireland believe that the man may have been involved in war crimes related to the abduction of Irish soldiers. Two out of three of those soldiers were tortured and killed. It is unclear whether the man will remain free when returned to Lebanon or if he will face charges in his home country.
